What are some tips for swallowing pills?

I always psych myself out... I have to cut my advil in half, and even then sometimes I can't take them.

I'm trying to take a Reactine, and if you know how small that is, then... yes, you will know how frustrated I am. Haha. :]

I've tried EVERYTHING though. Putting the pill in first, then water, putting my head back, etc. None of it works... sometimes I can get them down, but it's rare.

I used to be able to take huge pills when I was about 7 or 8, but I ended up swallowing one length-wise and it got stuck in my throat for about a minute so ever since then I haven't been able to. Any tips would be AWESOMEEE!

Thanks :D

  1. I have the same problem.  The thing is you need to relax and moisten your throat.  So swallow and swallow some water and immediately swallow the pill down.  It works!

  2. if you've already tried all that, i would suggest you Break it up and add to water :)

  3. Try taking your pills with something thick like tomato juice or a milkshake. Have a sip first so your mouth is not dry and the pill won't stick to it - then the pill and then a big gulp of your drink.

  4. I used to work in a hospital where there were a lot of people who couldn't swallow pills for a variety of reasons.  The nurses would crush the pills between two spoons, and mix them with apple sauce.  If you don't like apple sauces, you could mix them with pudding, yogurt, or something like that.

  5. I was pretty much going to say the same thing as Serafina.  Try chocolate milk.

  6. When I was little my mother used to crush a tablet with a mortar and pestle (like you use to crush spices and herbs).  Then she would mix it with sugar, give it to me in a teaspoon with a glass of milk to wash it down with.  Did the trick!
