I'd like to know peoples opinions on taking care of your lawn. Things like how often to water and fertilize, what's the best time of day to water, how long to water, what to do about bugs and fungus, and one of my worst problems worms. I have to many worms. I know they're supposed to be good for your lawn because they aerate it, but my lawn looks like a land mine field. Mounds of dirt everywhere.

  2. It sounds more like you have grubs than worms.  cup cake tins (disposable) cut down to about a quarter inch, filled with beer and weighted with a rock actually are very good against grubs since alcohol is highly toxic to grubs, but they're attracted to grain products.  When I lived in a house, I had the lawn thatched every other year, and fertilized every other year.  as far as weeds, I just used Trimec herbicide after thatching.  Water after fertilizing, and in the evening.  If you water in the morning, you'll find the water won't get into the soil nearly as much and your grass won't root down as well.  Mulching your lawn will keep more of the nutrients back into the soil.  Mowing in the evening after it starts to cool off, right before watering will be better for the grass.

  3. There is a lawn mower who will come to my house to cut the grass every month or so.

  4. Not the answer you want to hear...Let your lawn die and start over with something that is more environmentally friendly (native plants often require less water and no chemicals).  Be green!

"The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that nearly a third of all residential water is used for landscaping."  (Why do the lawns in the U.S. need city treated water, cleaned?  What a waste of energy and resources!)
