i have a 28 x24 room above garage with 4 foot knee walls on both sides. It's insulated with foam on walls and rafters, the garage ceiling is also insulated but it's very hot in the summer and cold in winter. I installed gable vents in both ends but didn't seem to help. would roof vents help?

  1. USA    Roof vents (similar to skylights, but openable)will help a little.  They work a lot better in conjunction with windows in the wall, to provide air movement and intake of outside air.

To keep the area cool, make sure the space is insulated with R38 or better insulation in the ceiling, R19 or better in the walls, and R30 or better in the floor (garage ceiling).  Have light colored shingles on the roof.

  2. The vent will help in the summer, and are needed all year long. There isn't enough insulation, anything in the attic will need up to 13 inches of fiberglass insulation to stop the heat and cold to the max. This would be on knee walls as well.
