  2. - Instal timers on fans switches , maybe even motion sensors in light switches

    - don't use dimmers

    - buy thick curtains

    - try to use cold water to wash

    - use an energy efficient thermostat

there are many ways to save, depends how far you want to go.  Start small though.

  3. Yes, it saves energy as a white screen takes more energy to power.  I'd say turning off other lights in the house would do a lot more than having a dark screen for saving energy though.

  4. Dont run !!

  5. Some big ways I've saved energy over the years is that I've replaced all my incandescent, and halogen bulbs with CFLs, including my mercury vapor outdoor light that is on all night.(Home Depot carries these CFL type bulbs for about $20.) I also replace an appliance with an energy star model, and best of all turn off lights and anything else when not in use. I also have plugs in an electrical strip and turn off the strip when I'm done so they still don't draw current when I'm not using them.

I was looking over some old electric bills for my house dating back 20 years. 15 years ago I was living with my mother and the 2 of us used 1100 kWH of electric every month.(That was for 2 people!) Today, my last bill was for 312 kWH,( and that's for me, my wife and 2 kids, same house.) Through the years I've put many conservation ideas into place including what I've listed above in this reply and have saved a lot of energy. Anybody can do that by simple changes in routine.

  10. This sounds flippant, it is not meant to be, the best tip on saving energy is so simple.

Look at your monthly payslip. Look at your net income (the money you have left after all stoppages, like National Insurance, Tax, Pensions) the work out your actual net hourly rate.

Then if you have never done so before, work out how much money you actually need to live on, particularly look at the things you can not reduce such as mortgage payments.

Next look at your energy bills. How many hours do you ACTUALLY have to work to pay for your current energy use? So you may have to ACTUALLY work 30 hours a month to pay for your energy use. When you are at work, starting on a Monday morning, make a note of the time and  a note of the time when you have paid your current energy bills. Scary isn't it?

All money is, is YOUR TIME AT WORK. Don't waste it on unnecessary energy bills.

So now you have all the tips you need on saving energy.  If you don't use so much of it, it you may be able to do the things you really want in life, or perhaps you may even be able to work less.
