Question:

What are some tips to get cheaper car insurance?

I have a very poor driving record. Right now, I'm paying about $4,000 a year to insure my car. It will probably go up when the policy renews in Sept. What can I do in the meantime?

Should I take the defensive driving course? What else?

I've tried to shop around but GEICO gives me the best deal at $4000. Some other companies would not insure me at all. Others wanted thousands more. What should I do?

I really like the convenience of having a car and I would probably cry if I had to sell it. I've had a car since I was 19 and I'm 26 now.

  1. I suppose you live in the usa.  A website that saves people hundreds to thousands of dollars is following.  It is not a broker or agent site.  It is a site that allows you to understand insurance and get the best 3 quotes.  I know that in ONTARIO CANADA where insurance companies enjoy a government allowed monoply, that this site is invaluable - meaning awesome.  I don't know if it will save you money in the USA.  Try it and let me know.

    INSURANCE HOTLINE is the name

    http://www.insurancehotline.com

Or try typing in - "insurance hotline lee romanov" in a google

  2. Try progressive car insurance, the general, or AIG car insurance.  They are all pretty cheap.  I have a bad driving record and GEICO was the most expensive when I was calling around for quotes.

  3. I just have laibility saves lots and yur still covered.

  4. Did you only go to "direct" companies?  Such as Geico, Progressive, and other companies that you can call directly on the phone?

If so, you should also try going to an "independent" agent.  These agents are not "captive," meaning they are licensed to quote you with several different companies.

Keep in mind though, they may not be able to beat the rate that Geico is giving you.  You said that you have a very poor driving record.  So ANY insurance company is going to charge you more, because you are a more risky candidate and there is a good chance that based upon your past driving record, the company may have to pay a claim for you.

You can find independent agents by looking in your phone book yellow pages or on line.

  6. Start walking

  7. quit wrecking cars and speeding should help :-p

  8. 1) change the type of car you have

    2) shop around

    3) buy a dash camera

    4) go to driving school

    5) don't get pulled over

    6) no accidents

  9. Part of the rate is calculated by how many miles per year are driven.  If you can lower your mileage, that will help.  They also use the zip code where you live.  Some zip codes have higher prices because there are more frequent accidents.  So...you could move to a different area.  Also, check to see which cars are the cheapest to insure.  Rates can be calculated by the engine size, horsepower, turbo, safety features and ratings, security features, etc.  Last, you can make sure your car is paid off so you can carry liability only and drop the comp and collision.
