What are some tips to prevent falling asleep while driving?

I got to thinking about this some time back while on a trip with my dad from Orlando to Savannah. Now, I didn't drive, he did. We both had a long night's rest, and there would seem to be no reason then to feel tired afterwards, but while on the road, not even an hour, and I started feeling sleepy and tired, before I knew it, I doze off. Later, I taught, if I had been driving, who knows where we would have ended up in.

So, I wonder, what can one do to help stay awake while driving and prevent an accident?

  1. roll the windows down periodically to get some fresh air blasting in your face...that always helps..

    sing along to the radio or your favorite CD..don't use your Ipod, it will just make you sleepier...

    talk lots to whomever you are with

  2. it's a great time for u and your dad to talk about things and bond more (if u haven't already), or listen to sum music u like, or if you're the passenger u can either watch portable dvd players, those little handheld game devices, or most phones have the internet on them!!!

  3. keep the car cold and turn up the music

  4. you need to be acutely aware of your surroundings, not playing with stupid games and gadgets;

  5. sing and have the radio loud coffee caffine chew gum

  6. Do not drive if you are tired ... get a good rest before you drive.

    If you are driving & start to feel tired, get off the road, find some safe place to have a nap.  That is one thing that rest stops are for.

    In my case, certain food stuffs help me become more alert (I am addicted to caffeen).
