  1. Read Super System 2 and the Harrington on Hold'em books.

Be patient.  You'll lose more money because you get bored and play bad hands when you shouldn't than you will from suckouts.

Bad beats happen.  Learn how to handle them so you won't tilt.  If you do feel yourself tilting, get up and either take a break or leave.

Don't put a limit on your winnings.  Some people play for a set amount of time to leave when they get up $X.  All that does is limit potential profits.

Don't drink more than one drink an hour.  Drunk people play bad, and even a little buzzed will adversely affect your profits.

Play position.  You can play more hands in later positions in an unraised pot than you can in early position or if there is a raise in front of you.

KQ, A-5, A-10. A-J, and JJ are NOT great hands.  They can be played, ut be careful.

If you play low kickers, you're going to lose a lot to bigger kickers.

Always look and see what the board can give your opponents.  If there are 3 cards to a flush or straight and you opponent is betting hard, you can be pretty sure he has the it.  Only come back at him in you are 99% sure he's bluffing, and then don't call, go over the top.

It's better to win a small pot than lose a big one.

Be careful when you slow play.  If you slow play anything less than the nuts, you're asking to get outdrawn.

Change up your game sometimes.  If you're generally a tight player, bluff once in awhile.  If you're a loose player, tighten up for an orbit or two.  This helps prevent people from getting reads on you.

If you're playing bad players, don't try fancy plays.  They won't understand check raises, continuation bets, etc, and will likely call a bluff regardless of what they have. Just bet when you have a hand and fold when you don't.

Don't lecture a bad player on his poor play, and don't compliment them when they make a good play.  You  want them to play badly, and doing either will not only make you look like a jack ***, it will drop your profits.

  2. Hmm depends what type of hold em game you're playing. pot limit, no limit and limit all have different strategies to maximizing your winnings (or lessen you losings). Play each of those games for a while and see which one you do best at

and then play that one. People who are better at reading other people tend to do better at no limit while people who rely more on mathematics and patience do better at limit.  The type of table your playing at has a HUGE affect on how  you play. If you are at a very loose, aggressive table, play tighter than you would at a normal table (only playing stronger hands) and make those other loose players pay you with your better hands. Now if you are at a tight table, loosen up your starting hand requirements and play more hands to the flop. Pay close attention to each player at the table, so that when a player makes a bet or raises you can have an idea if hes bluffing you or not. If you have a good hand, but not the best and a loose aggressive player makes a bet or raises, its probably ok to call, while if the person who bets or raises is a tight player, it's probably a good idea to fold the hand because it is liking he has top pair or is on a straight or flush draw (depends on the flop obviously of what he might have).

    Here's a few quick tips:

1.) Don't get attached to large hands.

2.) Fold when you know you are beat. (unless pot odds justify a call)

3.) Have patience. Poker is about winning in the long run, not the short.

4.) Pay attention to the players your playing against and leave the table if you feel it is a tough table. The better you are than your opponents, the more you will win, so look for tables with weak opponents to play against.

5.) Self control. If you are having a run of bad luck, and you can feel yourself going on tilt, quit for a while and play later when you are under control and are making decision that aren't affected by your emotions.

    Good luck!

  3. play slow, trust your cards (don't get too involved in wondering what the other person has)  if your at a home game, play only the hands you think you can win.  Don't limp in with King, 9 or anything like that.  Wait until you have two cards then play.  If you play slow in a home game you will almost always make it to the last 3.

  4. 1.  It takes a ton of patience to wait for good hands.  Are you willing to sit there and wait for good cards?

    2.  Don't play junk.  They can't beat you if you are not in the hand you shouldn't be in.

    3.  Throw away at the flop if you don't have at least top pair, top high cards, four to a flush or four to a straight.

    4.  It's aggravating to see poor players keep winning.  If you get aggravated easily, this is not the game for you.

There are other strategies, but using those top 4 will help you out very much.

  5. Play the opposite way your opponents play.  If they play tight, you play loose.  If they play loose, you play tight.

  6. OK..... Poker is a people game played with cards..... not a card game played by people!

What i mean is you need to be able to read your fellow player like he is a big sign in a stadium held by a fan looking for camera time.....

People give off tells and indicators to:

    1) How strong their current hand is, and whether they are willing to play it with (x) amount of players on the table

    2) Betting patterns and the hands they play in what position

    3) Whether they use a Weak or passive card selection, or tighter more reliable card selection.

    4) How they bet, When they bet, how much they bet will tell you = what they have or are trying to make.......

Practice and patience and keen observation along with a rock solid memory on how certain individuals play will make you win consistently! I usually rank consistently in the top 3 out of 150+ that play with us in our town, and i have for the last 1 1/2 years... There is more to it than this but this much should get you started.

  7. wear sunglasses!

  8. The tips would be different for different types of hold em.  No limit live game I would say definitely play position and push with a made hand.  Whereas in limit holdem you can pay for a draw.  Tournament play.  Let the maniacs kill each the first rounds.  You be patient the AK will come again soon enough in higher levels.  Become more agressive when the "paint" cards have more power and smaller pairs can thin the field with a bet of five to six times the big blind.  Good luck to you see you at the final table someday
