rome, venice, florence are the most visited cities...... but i like milan too (but is a little bit said.... so it's called "the grey milan" but there are a lot of locals and boutiques in the centre)!!!!!!!! then islands of elba, capri, ischia....... the costa smeralda, in sardinia, is awesome and in summer here you can see all italian stars....... then there's rimini (such as santa monica beach in LA), it's very caotic.....................

in liguria there are a lot of pretty little tows on the coast, and tuscany it's fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... with its hills and ancient towns...................................... the lake garda and the valpolicella in veneto, valtellina in lombardy, lake orta and lake maggiore in piedmont (where i live), the etna in sicily, puglia and naples (but at the moment is a very dirty city with rubbish everywhere and i'm sad for this) and umbria.....................................

there's a lot to see in italy!!!

It depends.  Do you want to visit art cities, go to the mountains, hills, sea-side, lakes, visit one of the many islands, visit an archaeological site, etc.?  It basically is one big tourist site.

The most popular cities with tourists are without a doubt Rome, Florence, and Venice. While all beautiful places (especially Rome -- you'd need a lifetime to see everything that Rome has to offer) some of the most beautiful places in Italy are not tourist hotspots (thank God.)

Some of my favorite places are Siena and San Gimignano in Tuscany, the region of Puglia, the islands of Ischia and Elba, Lake Garda, Padova, and of course, the town where I live, Verona.
