What are some tricks on the computer to make your essay appear longer?

Well you can make the font maybe 1 or 2 levels bigger than 12. you can also make your sections smaller so you can make more paragraphs. That will cause for more spaces and more area taken up for your essay.

Justify, shrink the margins, and put 2 or 3 spaces between every sentence (if you justify, the last one won' be necessary).  Space it 1.5 (2 is too obvious)

Skip a page number such as 1,2,3,5,6  (most people don't count, they just check the last page)  

You can also make the margins a bit wider, and the header and footer.   That's about it.

Believe me Teachers and Professors know every trick in the book and will nail you for it. They count words. Just do the assignment like asked.

try double spacing, or changing your font style or size. some font styles are larger than others. also after each paragraph you could press enter so it leaves a one line space between them.
