  1. Teaching them to "shake hands" or to give hugs is pretty easy.

For "shake" stand in front of your horse and say "shake" (or whatever you want) and grab behind their knee and pull forward on the leg until they pick up their foot. Reward with a treat, petting and praise. Repeat a few times a day for 3-5 minutes till they get it.

For "hugs" stand with your back to the horses shoulder and hold a treat in the hand closest to their belly and out so they can see it. When they stand still and reach across you with their neck reward with a treat, petting and praise.

Repeat a few times a day for 3-5 minutes till they get it.

  2. well, im not one for teaching tricks but whatever people say, DO NOT teach it to rear. not funny but very very dangerous and if you do, you will soon have a horse you cant ride.

Sorry, I tried to find a good website for teaching your horse to count but I couldn't find any! Good luck!

  4. my grandma used to teach horses tricks like bowing and counting and stuff it was pretty cool, sorry i dont know how to teach them though, im sure you could look up ways of teaching them tricks

  5. we taught our cob to bow by luring him between the front legs with a carrot. Let him know you have it and encourage him to bring his nose down and then gradually bring the nose between the front legs and then back so he stretches right back. Be careful to do this on a soft ground until the horse is confident as they might fall to their knees if pushed too much or if they overbalence so if you do it on soft ground then they won't get hurt.

The other thing we taught out cob was to shake - you take hold of a front leg at the knee, pull it forward and shake, then reward with a treat. This only took a couple of go's to get, but he now offers shake whenever there's any food on offer.
