I found quite a few buried in the garden. Some seem to be turning back to clay. Does anyone have any suggestions about how these bricks can be reused?

  1. Old bricks can be put at the bottom of potted plants. They are food for the plant and minerals for the soil.

  2. You can make a sculpture out of it.Or if you have children, they can make one, too!

  3. Old broken bricks are good for orchids..

  4. you can make a creek!!! and put an out line and out some rocks and then the brcks for some "homey" look

  5. Broken bricks usually make a good "hardcore" base for a hardstanding or concreting over.

Your description of your bricks might not be not suitable for hardcore specification, but would suffice for vibratory tamping to form a hardstanding base.

  6. Broken bricks can be used as fill for concrete work or around a yard to build water run off channels away from down spouts.  In most cities down spouts are not longer connect to storm sewer system but the home owner has to slope the water away for his and his neighbor's home:  dig a trench with a slope us your broken brick to form a channel with a brick on the bottom.  This will let water flow away from you home but also allow it to seep into the earth over a wider area slowly.   The goal is to r****d and retain the rain run off over your property hoping it will seep to the water table.
