  1. You'll have to define "very cheap". It's not a term that usually goes with DNA testing. All of them are at least $100. Here's a link to the DNA Project which has one of the best track records for accuracy: http://www.dnaancestryproject.com/?OVRAW...

  2. None of the Dna testing companys are cheap, if one is very much cheaper than another I would be very suspicious of them. I have used Family Tree DNA

http://www.familytreedna.com  for my own testing and believe, out of all the reputable companies, that their prices are the most competetive, if you go with them you can get a discount by joining one of their surname groups. I suggest you have a look at their site and see what they have to offer.

FTDNA are the oldest, the largest and, I believe the most accurate testing company, they also do all of the testing for the National Geographic's Genome Project

  3. Put SMGF in your search engine. They do it for free.  Now, they will not send you a report.

It will take about 6 months for you to see your results on their website and still you will need them interpreted.

They have contracted with GeneTree to interpret the results. I got my mitochondrial interpreted for $19.50.   You will need to set up a signon with GeneTree which is free to do.

They are planning to use autosomal sometime soon. That will give you a more complete information.

Y DNA is passed from father to son.

Mitochondrial DNA is passed from mother to sons and daughters but only the daughters pass it on to her children.

You get autosomal 50-50 from both parents.

It is what most of your DNA is.

Since you are a male, you could get both the Y & the Mitochondrial which will give your direct male line and direct female line but it would not include the spouses of  your direct male and female lines.  Autosomal will.
