What are some volunteer opportunities for me?

Lets say I live in Northern Indiana. I won't tell you which corner. I need something to do this summer. I want to volunteer. I love animals and medical things. My dad is a vet. I don't really want to volunteer at the zoo. I volunteered at the animal shelter once last week, but it wasn't really very organized, and they were like, oh yah, you can go back there and brush the cats, and that was kind of boring to do for a whole hour. I need something to do. I am in band, but not marching band because i did it last year and it was just too much. I am not really into sports, except I do dance, but that only goes on during the summer. I might babysit a little this summer. So, does anybody have any idea of where I could volunteer? I am 13 soon to be 14.

  1. WOW!

    What a sweetheart you are!

This is a tough one.... Since your Dad is a vet, I assume he gets 'cast-off animals.'

MAYBE, if you have the heart and stamina, you could train one of these pets , be it a ferret (!) a dog or cat to be quite  patient. Then take that wonderful pet to a Nursing Home. These folks CRAVE  any inter-active love. A l**k on the hand could brighten their day for weeks!

  2. Is there a Wildlife Rescue organization you could volunteer to work at?

Or a specific Breed Rescue group?

You could volunteer to work for a Vet...if you don't want to work with you Dad, maybe he knows another vet you could help out.

You could give the Humane Society/Animal Shelter another try...one day isn't really enough time. Let them know you like medical stuff & your Dad is a Vet...see if they'll let you assist the vet there or do something more technical than just brushing cats.

Re-think volunteering at the zoo...I think it would be a great learning experience!

Keep in mind, even as a volunteer you're not always going to be doing fun & exciting work.

There's alot of dirty work that goes with working with animals.

  3. Ask your dad to do stuff at his office like filing and stuff. Easy work and you get pretty easy hours with family.

  4. plant a tree
