  1. The link below describes "Hypermiling".  It is a method by which you can maximize your gas mileage without adding useless gadgets to your car.

  2. yes it helps cruise control to get better mpg also

    proper tire inflation

    regular oil changes

    regular tune ups(manufactures recommendations)

    jack rabbit starts(sudden starts)

buying gas from a reputable gas station(buy good gas )

    proper balance and tire alignment

  3. it helps.

    dont take sudden starts.

    and cruise whenever possible

  4. dont accelerate hard, use your momentum, and plan well ahea

    d

so you dont have to brake so much.

cruise control doesnt help,it's for lazy people, i get better mileage without.

  5. OK, I should have just answered your question before I read all the answers,,   Now I'm confused  !

I try to avoid those sudden jack rabbit starts  ( my friend

refers to those as being as the drag strip races ).

I don't use the cruise control unless I'm on the Interstate,

because in the stop & go traffic in the city it just isn't practical.

I do combine errands, or wait a day or so if I know I'm going to be going in one direction to wrap up what I need to do on that side of town.

***  I did check my cars manual and found that it recommends   Regular gas, and i had been putting in Premium, thinking that was always better  ***

And I did get my very own tire gauge in a nice case ( well, it should look nice ! ) because I got a lecture from the car dealer about keeping the tire pressure correct!

Tune ups, and oil changes I get on a regular basis, that's just an old habit,  I think it's better than paying for things falling apart, but if it's helping the gas mileage,  that's even better.

  6. assuming you want better gas mileage because of the money you save buying gas, i would say that you could save more money planning your trips using the vehicule .Even cutting down  driving to places you dont need to go and combining your trip to take care of more than one thing could save you some real money;;;but one tip on getting better gas millage is really simple. keep your tires inflated to the max recomended psi. make sure your air filter is clean and dont have a bunch of heavy junk in the car or trunk.;

  7. The cheapest and most important thing you can do is to regularly maintain the tire pressures.  Under-inflated tires can increase fuel burn by more than 10% and they they will wear out prematurely.

You can also save quite a bit fuel by regularly changing the air filter and using synthetic oil.

  8. Congressman Charlie Rangel (D-New York) leases a Cadillac DeVille for $774 a month with taxpayer money.

In defense of his taxpayer-funded Cadillac, Rangel says, "The car isn't just a vehicle for getting around; it's an important part of doing my job, and my constituents appreciate it."

But why not question the mindset of a congressmen who complains about oil companies but drive around in gas-guzzling automobiles.

Such members of Congress should be doing more to lessen America's dependence on foreign oil -- and those congressmen who do otherwise are being "hypocritical."

  9. yes it helps it keeps you from speeding to

  10. yes keep the speed constant, rpm's constant, all for better mpg

  11. stop driving around.  Or you could start using the bus systems or  start carpooling.  I think that cruise control isn't that efficient because if the car has to speed it will accelerate faster than slowly putting pressure on the gas pedal.  also check the air in your tires, deflated tires tend to slow down the vehicle, and try to keep you air filter clean, take it out and try to blow out the debris from them.  If you don't have an air compressor you can buy an air filter called K&N filter.  It cost more than the normal filters but you can wash them  and reuse them over and over. Plus try to keep regular tune up: spark plugs, wires and oil changes to stop sludge build up in engine so parts can move easily and require less gas.  Hope this will help.  Good luck.
