Question:

What are some ways I can get my teeth healthier?

I admit, I am terrible when it comes to taking care of my teeth. I had a moment of clarity this week, when I heard a friend of mine had his entire top row of teeth pulled because of lack of care. I am not there yet, but I got very concerned. I don't have insurance or the money to visit a dentist now, but my gums are bleeding heavily and I would like to maintain the level its at. Is there anything else I can do aside from the obvious (brushing/flossing/mouthwash) If so, what? Thanks.

  1. Get a sonic toothbrush. They are expensive but they are well worth it. They get your teeth much cleaner than manual brushing. Get the one that is easy to  change out the toothbrush on and off of. I got the other one first time and it gets gross and dirty where it connects.I still use a manual brush for my tongue. After brushing and flossing I swish with peroxide every few days. Then I brush again with the peroxide and sometimes baking soda. I rinse very well. Also you should get glide dental floss this will be less likely to cut into your gums when you floss,. You should brush twice a day at least but the dentist says three times a day after eating.

  2. Definitely see your dentist when you have the money. They can recommend a treatment plan for you.

Typically when your gums bleed, you could have gingivitis or even periodontal disease.

You want to get this under control ASAP, because this eventually leads to bone loss under your gums, and maybe even tooth loss. Try using a water pik. I have braces right now, so flossing alone doesn't cut it for me.

Also, another great product I have personally used, and helped was Ora MD. You can buy it from their website. www.oramd.com

    Good luck!

  3. Use Crest Pro-Health toothpaste and mouthwash.  It fights just about everything that's threatening to your teeth.  Also, get an "extra soft" toothbrush, it's gentler on the gums so it doesn't make them bleed more.

I got diagnosed with periodontal disease earlier this year, and I've been paying for it big time (financially and painfully).  Doing those two things, though, and flossing regularly has helped TONS and I don't bleed or feel much pain anymore.  The big thing is making sure you keep up on it all...don't get lazy about it if the bleeding subsides, keep at it!

  4. First thing first, by evaluating your complaints, I can say that it's either you don't take care of your oral hygiene well or you practised wrong oral hygiene care.

Believe it or not, the more your gum bleed, the more you have to brush that part. Although it seems scary just to see the blood oozing out, but I doubt you'll die or even experience hypotension because of it. Gum bleeding is classic sign of periodontal disease. It's either you still have gingivitis or it's already advanced to periodontitis. If it's still gingivitis, then the process can still be reversed (meanings the gum can get back to its original state), but if it's periodontitis, you have to see a dentist.

Actually, brushing, flossing, and mouthwash usage are enough to get your teeth healthier. All other products are more of a marketing strategy. If you know proper method of toothbrushing, floss your teeth daily properly, and use mouthwash... you condition shouldn't be worsening, but I expect it to improve. Just type 'toothbrushing method' on the search engine. Flossing daily is also important because there are some parts of the tooth that are impossible to be accessed simply by toothbrushing no matter what you do. Mouthwash is more like an... accessory stuff. You can use it if you like, but it's no use if you don't brush your teeth properly or floss your teeth daily.

I wish you all the best with that... and please don't be cheated by many companies' marketing strategy.
