What are some ways I can help out? (please read)?

I really want to help organizations that help with Child Abuse victims, poverty, and endangered species, but I do not know any that are good and trustworthy. I am not allowed to donate to organizations because my mom thinks most of them don't actually help. The money doesn't really go towards the cause much. What are some good organizations I could donate to that do help?

  1. You could go to kiva.org. Your mother would be reassured because the money isn't given, it's loaned. I started lending over a year ago and all my money has been returned, just as for 99.7% of all lenders.

It helps poor people by giving them the same access to money that wealthier people have. You can loan as little as $25, which is combined with other people's money (people from all over the world) and then lent $75 to $1500 at a time to people who want to start/expand a business so they can send their kids to school or improve their homes or support the orphans they've taken in.

The Salvation Army has a wonderful reputation for spending its money well on poor people.

You can check out charity rating services for other causes to see who spends the most on their cause.

  2. If you are old enough to volunteer, time is often better than money. Check for a boys and girls club in your neighborhood, and you could help children who are from low-income families and/or have suffered from abuse or neglect. You could also volunteer at a soup kitchen for the hungry and homeless populations. You should check out the website of the Child Welfare League of America (CWLA). There are some good organizations out there.
