Attend community meetings.First to get the backing of the community. Develop a think tank to find what is lacking. What can be done to implement the change and what is the cost.

Take courses in grant writing. Every community has room to be improved these days. A good grant can help finance the improvements. A Senior center, after school club, a book club, a writer club, talent shows are only a few ways to get to know your community better and for them to learn who you are as well, because one day you might run for public office. Getting a good foundation will help pave the road towards that career.
