  1. There are many countries that have  Universal health care that we could copy and the one rated best is the one in France. It is one of the most expensive but still is only 10% of GDP  where as our current system  cost 15%.

  2. We have to many people to have it work here as well as it does with those who have it now. The government as never done anything right and to trust them with this, one would have to be a total fool. Peace

  3. Depends what you mean by effectively.

Provide coverage to every single American.. that would be easy enough to do.

Provide coverage without tripling taxes, creating a bloated government bureaucracy and causing a severe drop in quality of service.. that's pretty close to impossible.

  4. It's a statement of fact, communism doesn't work. Let me explain. With universal health care, everyone with a runny nose will go to the clinics. Lines to see doctors will be long, and very slow. Lines for surgeries will be longer, and slower. Doctors will be paid what the state tells them they can be paid. All procedures will have a set fee. Good doctors will go into private practice. Rich and wealthy patients will go to see them. You and I will go to the clinics, and see the second class doctors. Go ahead, ruin our world class system. See what you get.

  5. It can't. Don't you think we have bigger issues to handle first?

  6. If you look at countries that have "successfuly" implemented the system you'll notice the following:

    -highly restrictive immigration policies

    -homogeneous culture

    -national language

    -50% income tax

In short, we must be willing to clearly define who is elegible for care and have the guts to deny care to those who are not (as opposed to now when no one can be turned away from a hospital).

We have to be willing to enforce certain cultural guidelines...a national language would eliminate the need for forms in multiple languages and the requirement that bi-lingual doctors be available at all times....

Finally, we would all need to accept the fact that "care" would now be defined by the government, not the people...

things that sound "nice" normally require a great deal of individual sacrifice...the resistance to adopt them is most often due the collective refusal of these individuals to make the hard decision, rather than an evil and greedy government...

  7. It can't be if we expect to retain the high level of care most of us enjoy today..

  8. Eliminate private insurance and utilize a single-payer system.  Folks will still have the choice of doctors/medical services which will still compete, but the reduction of redundant bureaucracies would inherently reduce the overall costs.  Plus, moving the high-risk folks to a single-payer coverage means that Medicare and Medicaid simply go away.

  9. ..come up with a trillion dollars a year.

  10. Allow all citizen's to join the Federal Health Insurance programs.  Wella...healthcare problem solved.  Also, prevent Insurance companies from gaming sick people by allowing all individuals who pay premiums to get coverage.  The prices are fair and its good enough for feds!  It should be good enough for the rest of us.

Also, mandate that all workers pay for it or must provide proof of coverage.  They same way they do it with automobile coverage.  You can't drive without first showing proof of insurance.  Why can't they do it for healthcare too!  If folks have to choose between an ipod or healthcare...then it shoudl be forced on them.

The poor will always have a safety net the rest of us won't have.  We just have alot more to lose without it, and therein lies the problem with our healthcare system today.
