I have seem the show, but never understood how an fighter wins the match.

I know a few knock out or can not go on in the match

Can anyone tell me other ways how a UFC fighter can win the match?

And do they give the fighter points for every punch and kick they hit? if so, how many are they worth?

One last question, can an UFC fighter win the match by holding the person he is fighting down on the ground long enough to win the match?

  1. submission....opponent taps out to pain, a choke, or strikes....its like giving up. admitting defeat.

ref stoppage....a guy can no longer intelligently defend himself...the ref can stop the fight.

points....obviously this is when it goes all the way and is left to the judges decisions. (i think they should just let em keep fighting personally)

doctor stoppage...you can get cut bad and the doctor can stop the fight.

holding someone down will only get you stood back up.

your corner can also throw in the towel...so your coach can stop the fight too.

you can also get disqualified for cheating.

  2. I am going to take the lazy man's way out and copy and past directly from the UFC's website:

    Ways To Win:   [Top]

    1. Submission by:

               Physical tap out.

               Verbal tap out.

    2. Technical knockout by the referee stopping the contest.

    3. Decision via the scorecards, including:

Unanimous decision [all judges pick the same fighter as the winner].

Split decision [One judge picks one fighter, the other two judges pick the other fighter].

Majority decision [two of three judges pick the same fighter as the winner].

               Draw, including:

                      Unanimous draw.

                      Majority draw.

                      Split draw.

    4. Technical decision.

    5. Technical draw.

    6. Disqualification.

    7. Forfeit.

    8. No contest.

The scoring is just like in boxing. The winner of the round receives 10 points. The loser of the round gets 9 or less. The judges score the rounds based on effective striking, grappling, aggression and octagon control.

Hope this answers all of your questions.

  3. Submission by the opponent taping out is another way they can win the match.

Rounds are scored like in boxing on a 10 pt. scale each round.

No, no holding down and pinning the opponent, but not very good to be on bottom b/c get so major punches and elbows to the head!!
