  1. The classic ways are the best.  Instructing, charter flying, banner towing, aerial photography, pipeline/power line patrol, light cargo, and others you will hear about.

I built my first 1200 hours giving instruction, flying power lines, and carrying canceled checks in the middle of the night.  Have you ever been sitting out on the back porch at 2:00 in the morning and heard/seen a single-engine airplane buzz over at 3,000 feet in the scud?

That was not somebody flying for fun--it was some poor slob out trying to build 1500 hours for the ATP and job interviews.  And hoping the fuel line didn't come loose or the ailerons fall off.  It can be brutal.

The market for these services is not really good right now.  There is a sharp downturn right now in the demand for flight instruction, because the costs are rising so sharply.  It comes in cycles, and a good election will help.

And to answer the second part:  lots of airline pilots have second jobs.  The A/P mechanic that works on my airplane also flies for a major airline.  I know one that is a financial planner, and one that is an architect on the side.  There are lots of opportunities.

  2. listen to musik.

    its wat i do..

    or sing..

  3. The best second job would be to sit and meditate.  That will buy you LOTS of time and give your mind some vacation.

  4. This worked for me. I got a job at the FBO and got to know many of the older retired pilots who own their own plane. Many will welcome you to join them for their safety and some for just company. They know their reaction time is slowing. Don't be afraid to ask around and put up flyers around the FBO's. Also your flying on their dime! Good Luck

  5. You could be the pilot flying skydivers up, or pulling gliders, working week-ends.

You'd never go too far from the base, and would accumulate a lot of take-off and landing experience.
