  1. try talking to your cat. I talk to my cat all the time and she understands me most of the time.

  2. I read somewhere that you can communicate love to your cat with your eyes. You make eye contact with them- don't stare them down, but look at them gently. A soft look means "I"- a blink means "love" - and another soft look in their eyes means "you". It's sweet, I don't know if it'll work, but  it's sweet either way!

  3. Hi Fish Man,

Great that you are trying to communicate with your cat. One of the best ways to communicate is to learn feline language. Most of the time cats communicate with body language, so learning to "read" your cat's actions is going to give you a paw's up from your feline friend.

Fur instance:) Cats are territorial so when they rub against you with their face, they are "claiming" you as theirs. It is a compliment!

Tail position is very important. An upright tail held high is a sign of happiness and interest in something. You might want to see what is calling your cat's attention.

Cats reserve "meow" for humans, apparently. They do not "meow" with each other. Your cat may be trying to get your attention with a "meow", and the tones of each of them mean something different. Be observant of what "meow" your cat uses for different situations.

Sometimes a little nip on the nose is an affectionate gesture, but we do not recommend you returning your love with this action to your cat <grin>.  Observe the position of your cat's ears. Laid back flat, he is definitely telling you he is annoyed and to get out of his way.

One of the things you can do, is to face your cat sideways, and blink. Cats blink for pleasure often. I have had a long dialog with my white Oriental Shorthair, doing blinks for extended periods of time. He seems to love it.

Hope this helps and good luck communicating away. Your cat will be thrilled that you have taken to time to learn some of his language.

  4. No one way will work, cats are all different. Most cat owners talk to cats, groom, stroke, give treats. My cats are very "chatty" but mostly when playing or waiting for food. One thing I love, is when my cats play with something, and I hide it. I act very excited and look around the room trying to "find" it. They love it and follow you around, when they find it first, they get very excited and seem very proud of themselves. Food as with men, is the way to a cats heart though.

  5. You can play games with your cat, speak to your cat and stroke your cat and you will gain a good relationship together, goodluck.
