  1. try and make regular trips to the library with your kids, at least with the ones that are old enough get them their own libray card.

if your 15 year old has a favorite Movie that is based on a book, then let them read the book, the book always has far more interesting stuff than the movie,

i.e  Sense and Sensibility,  Jane Austen is a fabulous writer, or if your 15 yr old is a Boy, maybe he likes the Star Wars movies, have him read the books, there are a bunch of them out there.

i dont know how old all of your kids are, but once they complete a book maybe you could make a chart on poster board so they can kind of SEE it written down, or have them each write a short essay or something on how they liked the book and have the kids each get to play "teacher" and grade each others paper.

or once they finish the book have them write a few paragraphs on a different ending to the book than the one that is already written, that will help them build up their imaginations too!

    happy Reading !

  2. ask ur 15 year old what their interested in

then find a book that has to deal with that topic

my parents and I shair many favoite books such as "watership down" and "the dragonlance series"

i used to never be intrested in reading untill i was 10, when my mother assigned me to read watership down.

the next year she told me to read the 1st book of the dragonlance series, now,5 years later, we shair an intrest in zombie books

  3. Find out what interests your 15 year old for hobbies, possible job ideas, what they want to do when they grow up, etc.

Then, select magazines and books (begin with short ones) that have information and fun things about that interest.

Encourage your child to SHARE with you the things they learn about the interest.

Usually, when a child is interested in what they are reading about, they read more.

  4. You really can't. You make them do there school work, but if they don't want to read outside of that than I don't understand why they have too.

  5. We have problems getting my 4th grade brother to read. We've just tried to find books that get him interested. Also, we gave him small rewards. He has to have so many AR (Accelerated Reader) points every 9 weeks. We would tell him if he got so many points, he could have a game or something else he had been asking for. Also, his library at school has a points store. They can use their points as money, and buy little rewards there. Since the school mascot is a bulldog, they also give out dog tags. If they get to 25, they get one, 50, they get one, so on and so forth. This year he has gotten a dog tag for the first time, which motivated him to read and get more points to get another dog tag.

  6. find out books that she is into

  7. I was 17 when I first read the Harry Potter series.  After I finished the first one, (which is rather small) I gave it to my younger brother David who was 16 at the time, (he rolled his eyes) I told him to read the first three chapters and then if he wanted the other ones (there were only 4 at the time) to come to me and he could have them.

At the end of the day he was already reading the second one! To this day he has read about 500 books!

The key is to find something you know he will love.

  8. I'm 14. I hate reading. I only like 1 book series.

Its like a choose your own adventure book. But it involves a highschool girl. I cant remember the name of the first one but the second one is called "What If All The Guys Wanted You."

  9. Well, I am 16(since Feb. 18th)and I know that I wasn't to hot on reading then, but now I am really into reading funny books and humorous stuff.  That's just what I like. Maybe your child has a different interest but having an interest in something and then finding that in a book was what made me want to pick one up.  It's all about interests and things like that.

  10. Pull the television, gamesystem, computer OUT of the kid's bedroom and replace them with books.  When the kid says "I'm bored" hand the kid a book.  Next time the kid wants to wander the mall with friends tell the kid they can go ONLY if they purchase a book at the bookstore and bring it home (most malls have bookstores)

Turn off the television and computer you're using and pick up a book yourself.

  11. Find something she is into.  I never liked to read until my sister let me read one of her Anne Mccaffrey books just don't push her.  My son is 7 and reads at a 4th grade level but doesn't like to read.  They have Accelerated Reader at school is the only way I can get him to read.  Just have her try different kinds and like someone else said start with short ones.
