What are some ways to get steep discounts on airline tickets?

Can I just go to the airport and fly stand by, I think it doesnt work but I've heard it might. Really what I'm asking is...there's got to be a way to get cheap tickets at the last minute for a flight that has open seats. How do I take advantage of this or am I just fantasizing?

You can try Priceline as they have huge discounts on airline tickets with last minute flights but origins to destinations are limited.  But who knows luck may be on your side.

Try getting your air ticket from Priceline.com

They are reliable and attractive fares too. Most importantly if you could have flexibility with your flight departures/arrival dates.
