Question:

What are some ways to help me have more pleasant dreams?

During the school year, I tend to have awful dreams, usually about school, which limit the amount of rest I get. Does anyone have any ideas to help me get a more peaceful, dreamless sleep without the use of any drugs or medication? Also, what foods shouldn't I eat before going to bed? Sometimes I'll eat popcorn, but I don't think it's that bad. Thanks.

  1. You need to relax more. Dreams are just reflections of what's going on in your day to day goings on, mixed with a few memories and a little bit of imagination. So you need to find yourself time in the day to do what you love doing - whether it be going out walking, spending time with friends, cooking, reading... Whatever. Something relaxing and enjoyable. You should also make sure that you're eating well too, as you'll be physically more content and ready for rest when the time comes for sleep.

  2. yea i use to have the same prob up untill like the age of 12 or  13 what u can do is try being less stresssed or somtihng idk mine just went away

  3. eat chocolate! woow so yummy! you might dream about chocolates!

haha nyway.. before you sleep try thinking about your crush! you might dream about him!

  4. Listen to music, listen to soft music, it calms you down and makes you sleep even more, i do it everyday. If i ever dream its nice things i dream about.

  5. Sounds like they're related to your anxiety about school; if you can address this to make school less stressful your dreams will improve.  Begin by having a positive outlook.  If you're chosen for a team/club, don't think about how you might mess up.  If your mind starts talking to you about what could go wrong, tell it that it could just as easily go very well, and this might happen, or that might happen that is good.  This is called positive self talk, and it's a tool used to help people learn to stop worrying about everything bad that MIGHT or COULD happen.  When you start you're going to feel like two different people in your head arguing, but keep at it and it works -- you learn to think more positively instead of negatively in terms of consequences.  Also remember that 90% of worry is pure fantasy, and can waste a lot of energy which could be better used on other things.

Then, before you fall asleep, think over what's currently going on at school and imagine the best outcomes from those situations.  Do it in as much detail as you can, see it happening in your mind.  Don't let the negative thoughts intrude.  This can be hard at first, but keep going; bottom line is you can control your own thoughts, but you have to train your mind to a purposeful positivity.

And finally, if there's something going on at school and you need help with it, ask for that help.  Don't put up with being bullied or something like that.

  6. as cliche as it sounds, a glass of warm milk does wonders ^^

  7. Try not eating anything before bedtime, and think of fun things you like to do before you go to bed.  Sometimes a little exercising before betime helps you as well,  I'm so tired from working or just exercising everyday that I don't even dream I'm so tired.

  8. First of all you shouldnt eat before going to bed that can create bad dreams. Also think of something before you go to sleep such as puppies ect. that should eliminate the bad dreams
