Have you guys ever taken children in? We can't really help it, we want to go... but we just found out that my boyfriend's family is coming to visit during our break. The two girls are aged 8 and 10 and do pretty well when given a task or told to be careful with things. I'm just afraid they'll get bored...what are some good ways to keep them interested so that they don't ruin the adult's time?

  1. Perhaps you can invent a scavenger hunt for them. Make a list or card (like a bingo card with squares on it) and have them search for things...

    mirror

    child's desk

    lawn furniture

    grandfather clock

    linens

    most expensive item

You get the general idea. If you know the mall you are going, you generally know what you will see there and can make your list accordingly.

You can always offer up a trip to the ice cream parlor after for good behavior!

    Good luck. :)

EDIT: he he, just saw the first answer that came up 30 seconds before mine... looks like we are on the same page!

  2. lol umm, yeah I love to go antiquing and have had to bring them before, like if we've stopped at one while on vacation or something, then you don't really have a choice cause y'all are together.  Give them a certain thing to look for, not necessarily something that you are going to buy, but maybe just a certain toy, or how many of ____ can you find while we are here, kinda like I spy or a little treasure hunt of their own since you are on a treasure hunt right?  Have fun, that's the most important thing!  Teach them that it can be fun and to enjoy it as much as you do.  Now my daughter actually likes to go along, and she is good and keeps herself occupied, she's 10 also.
