I've decided that i want to make some venetian masks, so far all what I've done to make them is shape foil to my face then cover the front and back with paper mache. Can someone give me some tips on how to make them, mind you I have to make all of it from scratch, so I can't buy blank masks.

  1. Most craft stores carry mask-making kits.  Off of the top of my head I can't remember what's in them, but you could always check the contents to see if it's cheaper to buy in bulk if you'll need to make a great many of them.  It's basically gauze covered with a specialized sort of plaster.  You put petroleum jelly on your face so that it doesn't stick, wet the strips provided, and mold them to your face.  It takes a short time to dry, and at that point you have a perfectly fitted mask.  It's most important to get the petroleum jelly over hair on your face.  I missed a spot on the edge of my eyebrows once, and I can't say I recommend that experience at all.  You'll want to let them dry overnight before you paint them or adjust the exterior shape at all.
