What are some ways to tell your kitten needs a companion?

I just got a male Bengal kitten. I work Monday through Friday, 7-4. How do I know whether he's okay by himself at home? Do you think I should get him another kitten to play with?

  1. I would give it another cat because it needs a friend.

    Hope this helped!

  2. You should definitely get another kitten. They really do love company and  it is for this reason that very few (if any) cat rescue homes will let a kitten be adopted alone, especially if you are out all day. It is especially important for your kitten's social skills to have another cat/kitten to learn from and observe. See the link below for further reasons.

And enjoy - two kittens are so much more fun than one. They'll become a comedic double-act in no time!

  3. Well as a kitten they probably love to play, when you come home does he drive you crazy circling you and meowing? If so, he is probably bored. I would suggest another kitten that he got along with as it will keep them entertained.  I know as we got kittens and got two from the same litter, they love each other, never stay apart, sleep together, and play all day long.  They warmed up to us in a day versus the weeks and are very comfortable.  We knew we wouldnt want to play all night so that is why we got two as we didnt have to worry about them being lonely.  Good luck!

  4. You can tell that he needs a friend if he becomes destructive and starts tearing things up, etc. It is always a good idea to get two kittens to keep each other company and to socialize them so they aren't crabby when they get older. Plus, two Bengals!? sooo cute!

  5. Hi ya,

I have a bengal and it is probably the worst breed to have by himself if you are out of the house for that long.

The behaviour will be he will have "zooming" fits where he just runs mad around the house for about an hour. I know my friend when she did this had her legs clawed to bits due to boredom. Also they are clumsy and will knock anything breakable off of the sides etc etc.

They are a LOVELY LOVELY breed and will be affectionate cuddly and REALLY REALLY cute and interesting to watch, but they are SOooo intelligent and that is why they need company.

It doesn't have to be a bengal, but two from the same litter can be a good idea.

I have one male spotted boy by himself but I work from home mostly and he literally follows me everywhere and sleeps by my feet or on my lap when I am sitting.

Good luck but do think abut getting him a mate if you are for this length of time, otherwise negative behaviour may stop you enjoying this lovely breed.

    Hope that helps..
