  1. Lions' Club

    Kiwanis Club International

    Literacy Volunteers (my choice)

    Volunteers of America

    Habitat for Humanity

Ask the City about volunteering sith youth programs, also

  2. What a wonderful thing to do!  American Red Cross is not faith based.  I have been with them for 15+ years as a volunteer.  I am in disaster services as a client casework supervisor.  The classed are free, you learn so much and have the honor of serving your community in times of disaster and during your local storms, house fires, etc  The people are so nice too, you will meet many like minded individuals and form the basis of friendships.  Good luck to you!

  3. VolunteerMatch (http://www.volunteermatch.org), Idealist (http://www.idealist.org), Change.org (http://www.change.org) and CraigsList (http://www.craigslist.com) all list volunteering opportunities with thousands of organizations, including many in Idaho. There's also this government sponsored site (http://volunteer.gov/gov/) which provides volunteer positions through USA federal land agencies like Fish & Wildlife, Forest Service, National Parks, etc. Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site (http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/).

Finally, if you want to be a volunteer to help with the consequences of a natural disaster, such as Hurricane Katrina, you need to register and prepare NOW. Here's a web site where you can register and start your preparation so that you can help the next time disaster strikes:
