  1. The first thing you need to do is ask yourself what needs does your community have? Is there something that isn't already being focused on by an already established group or organization?

You can volunteer with your local chapter of Habitat for Humanity, Kiwaniis Club, Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, or communtiy specific organization in your area.

There are also simple things that are sometimes overlooked that make a big difference in people's lives. How about setting aside time each week to visit with people in your Senior Citizen Homes who don't have family nearby? Or asking the library if there if you could set up a designated time for Children's Story Hour where you can read kids stories?

Congratulations on taking the first step in thinking of others!

  3. Think about what YOU can do for your community. What does your community need, and where can you help? What are you good at? Brainstorm, and then contact people or organizations within your community that are associated with different things you enjoy doing.
