  1. Spatial divisions are land boundaries, created either naturally or politically.  State borders, counties, and city zoning ordinances are examples of political spatial divisions. They divide land use into specific areas in order to increase quality of life.  An area can be designated for housing, another for business, another for parks and recreation, or farming.

    An economic alliance is a partnership between countries, cities or companies that allows free trade between those in the alliance. The United States has a economic alliance with China but does not share China's political views.

    A political alliance is only concerned with sharing similar political views.  The United States is politically aligned with the United Kingdom but the two countries do not have a strong economic alliance.
