  1. run a lot

  2. Dude, that's gonna take a long time.

  3. why are u making c**p up in some other question u answered u said u ran a 4:55 mile and a 10:34 2mile

  4. You should work up to it.  You can leg exercises and get your endurance up and you will be faster and faster.  I can run a mile in 5:43 and it took a while.  Just keep doing it over and over, learn little tricks to keep you at a fast pace or to keep you from slowing down.  That is what helped me.  Push yourself over the top and I promise you will succeed!

  5. So, you are trying to take off 1:30min. off your best 6:40 mile? Come on, be realistic here. That will never happen.

  6. Better strength, better endurance, better speed.

A 5:00 mile means you have to be able to do at least a 1:12  440, so you need to have more speed in general.  More likely 1:05 repeats or better.  That also translates to easy 32's on 220yds, and 16 sec at 100 yds.  If you can't do any of those, or barely, you need to work on speed at all those distances.

To have a better 440, you need more leg strength which will give you more speed at shorter distances.

Be sure you get a good warm-up before you race.  Many runners are afraid they'll not have enough energy.  The problem is not too little energy to make 6:00.  Its a poor warm-up, which makes both the heart and leg muscles work on too little oxygen for the entire race.

I could do an 11 sec, 100 yds, and discovered I could run a 2:25 880, because I also did distance work.
