I don't think I'm getting enough.. I feel fine but if I add up what I've been eating these past few month I think I'm only getting 20-25% of the required amount of 1000mg. I heard brittle nails is one symptom but my nails are normal.. I only recently started cooking my own food to save money but I tend to buy the same things.

  1. If you do not eat enough calcium, or if your body does not absorb enough calcium, you will have many different problems. One of the first signs of calcium deficiency is muscle cramping, muscle irritation, eye twitching and more. Calcium deficiency can also contribute to muscle headaches, jaw pain, and TMJ headaches.

With long term calcium deficiency, your bones become brittle and can break easily. This is the cause of osteoporosis. Since strong bones are needed to support teeth, a deficiency of calcium can result in early periodontal disease and tooth loss.

    More symptoms:

    generalized muscle aching

    coarse hair

    brittle nails

    back and leg muscle cramps

    dry and scaly skin

    candida infections

    spasm of facial musculature

    neuromuscular irritability

    laryngospasm

    tetany

    papilledema

    convulsions

    ocular cataracts

    osteoporosis

lip, tongue, finder and feet paresthesias

    unexplained dementia, depression, or psychosis

Good luck, hope I helped :)

  2. your teeth will hurt.

    get calcium chews/supplements.

  3. You might not notice symptoms right away because as your diet is deficient in calcium your body steals the required calcium from your bones.  You will notice the osteoporosis when you are older.

Good news is you can fix this now.  You need to increase your daily calcium intake to 1200 mg a day if you are under 25 yrs old.  Adults over 25 must consume at least 800 mg a day to prevent bone loss.

Sympoms of deficiency:  agitation, hyperactivity, nervousness and irritability, brittle fingernails, eczema, insomnia, high blood pressure, localized numbness and tingling sensations or numbness of an arm or leg, muscle cramps or spasms, clouded or confused thinking, delusions, depression, heart palpitations, stunted growth, disease of the gums and tooth support structure and tooth decay.

  4. if you know you don't get enough calcium then you are slowly working up a calcium deficiency. You may not see the signs immediately but some signs can be discolored(whiter) spots on t***s, which never will go away, loosing hair, growing brittle nails or nails with holes in. I had all when I was a vegan as a teenager.

Other long term symptoms may be easily broken bones, arthritis etc.

Basically make sure you get enough calcium and the best way is to eat and drink lots of milk, yoghurt, cheese and veggies with calcium such as broccoli.

  5. I don't know the symptoms but I know that one cup of Quinoa has more calcium than a gallon of milk. It's a grain and can be used like rice. Easy to cook and cheap to buy.
