  1. Haha, Kiwi teens are like teenagers anywhere in the world.

Most love their cars, since you can learn to drive here at the age of 15.  This is our "Boy Racer" culture that the older generations love to hate, since Boy Racers love tearing up innocent neighbourhoods and perfectly good roads with their illegal drags.

Texting on cellphones is a big one for teenagers ...as well as binge drinking (we're an ex-British colony you see, so we tend to know how to pack away the alcohol, just like the English).  And iPods ... mp3 players etc etc ... soooo many kids walk the streets with their headphones on.  That's something young (and even older) people like to do, though I don't think it's anything unique to New Zealand. Oh and don't forget PlayStation 2, 3, Xbox and the Nintendo Wii, but again, this isn't exactly anything exclusive to Kiwi teens.

Sports here with the highest participation would be rugby, cricket, and then soccer (football).  There's all sorts of other stuff too though, like athletics, tennis, badminton, basketball, netball, softball etc etc in our schools, so a lot of kids get into those sorts of sports at school / in the weekends etc.

As for fashion trends, I have no idea how popular the Crocs and Havaianas brands are, but they are known here and I'm pretty sure a lot of people wear 'em.  QuikSilver, Billabong and Roxy is all pretty easy to find as well.  But yeah, pretty much anything in the way of street/skate/surf wear and footwear is all pretty standard dress for our teenagers.  Oh, then there's these "Vans" ...the ones I always see are these black and white slip-ons with chessboard patterns on 'em.  They're pretty popular at the moment (I reckon they look more like a pair of granddad’s slippers, but that's another story).

Hairstyles.  Wouldn't have a clue, except that if anyone goes 'round these parts sporting a mullet, then expect to get mocked like you won't believe, haha.

Teens spend a lot of time on YouTube, MySpace and Facebook, although I've been told that "Bebo" is the social networking site where most school kids in New Zealand like to hang out when they're in cyberspace? "TradeMe" is our biggest and best known answer to eBay for Online Auctions, so TradeMe is also quite "fashionable" with everyone, young and old.

As for music, I'll try and throw some names out there, but can't exactly speak for the whole country.  Some of this stuff I don't even like ...

Stuff like Beyonce, Eminem, My Chemical Romance????

There's some good home-grown stuff such as Fat Freddy's Drop, Scribe, Evermore, Brooke Fraser, Hollie Smith, Shihad, Bic Runga etc that most people like.  Then there's old school New Zealand music:  Spilt Enz, Crowded House, The Exponents and Dave Dobbyn.  Most Kiwis (young and old) love old school stuff, and if they don't, they at least know how to sing a few of the tunes pretty well during drunken nights out.

Anyway, since music is such an individual thing, and "in" music can tend to come and go so quickly, it's always hard to know what the latest music trends are for the young folk right now.

Most of our hottest celebrities are drawn from our two biggest TV shows ... Shortland Street and Outrageous Fortune.

Kylie Bax, Rachel Hunter and Charlotte Dawson are all well-known New Zealand stars, even if a couple of 'em are on the "older" side now.  There's also a few hot celebs who work on our newscasts, but I think these names just about cover it.

It was fun putting that together, thanks!

the music is varied it just depends on the person.

and crocs are not too popular with the teens here, havianas are more popular.

teens love going out late at night just doing teen stuff. there really is not much difference. except you will find alot of the teens are not so prejudice here.

  5. Lots of teens in NZ are into drinking and partying. We have a lot of underage drinking here. I know 13 and 14 year olds who get drunk.

Teens like shopping, bebo, msn, hanging out with their friends, going to the beach, make up, boys etc.

Chucks, flats, whatever is on sale at Supre or glassons for girls.

Not really crocs, but I have like 5 pairs of havaianas.

    Yes to Billabong and Roxy.

What ever is new and on the radio.

    Same as in America.

    Generally stuff is the same.
