    The phalanges [phalanx for singular] are the 2-3 bones [2 in the case of the thumb] that fuse to form your fingers. They're divided into three, the distal, the medial and the proximal phalanges. The proximal is the one closest to your palm, meaning the base of your fingers, the medial is the middle bone [usually the longest] and the terminal being the most further from the origin is the distal phalanges. Therefore the distal phalanx of the finger and toe are considered the terminal phalanges. Hope this helped =]
