  1. for better or for worse, and in no particular order:

.) MLK's "i have a dream speech": 1963

.) assassination of JFK: 1963

.) Dropping of atomic bombs: 1945

.) 13th amendment: 1863

.) 60s movement, mainly revolving around resistance to vietnam

.) Great Depression (stock market crash, banks & mortgages failing...): 1929

.) landing on the moon: 1969

.) C.A. gold rush: 1848

.) boston tea party: 1773

.) Industrial revolution, specifically mass production: began in late 1800s

many of the things listed -admittedly- aren't joyous or 'pretty' events. but when something amazing or important happens its less often about the actual event than what the event will mean for the future. wether it be the future of a career, the future of a sport, or in this case the future of a country.
