there are many scary stories related to mexican culture and the cupacabra is orginated in south america, brazil,etc... not north america-mexico. there is La llorona-The crying woman, El gallo Jiro-- The Devils Guide. and many more

or el cucuy (koo-koui)

and i think the devil's wife you're referring to is is "la Llorona"..the crying woman who drowned her children.
