2) China, with a billion people and a burgeoning economy is starting to think internationally. Even so, it is a major player in Asia and is starting to establish footholds in Africa and the Middle East.

3) Saudia Arabia, as the face nation of OPEC, the Saudis have a lot to say about the cost of energy in the world.

4) Russia, they are still trying to rebound from the fall of their Communist government in 1991. But, they still have a powerful military and a large stock of chemical and nuclear weapons.
