  1. There is:

    1. Wire gauge: a number assigned to wires of varous sizes.  The higher the gauge number, the smaller the diameter of the wire.

    2. Instrumentation gauge: a device that indicates the amount of a physical attribute of a material; temperature, pressure, flow, acceleration, velocity, weight, etc.  A thermometer is a temperature gauge.

    3. Metal gauge: similar to wire gauge, the metal gauge is a number indicating the thickness of sheet metal.  The higher the gauge number, the thinner the width of the sheet metal.

OR, perhaps you were referring to instrumentation gauges, only?

Over 3 types of gauges were already mentioned.

    1. Temperature gauges measure temperature

    2. Pressure gauges measure pressure in pounds per square inch ("psi") or kiloPascals (kPa), either relative to a vacuum (absolute as in, "psia"), or relative to the atmosphere (gauge, as in "psig", or just "psi")

    3. Flow gauges measure flow of gas or liquid in units of volume per time, as in: liters/minute, or gallons/second.
