one really good game is Super Smash Bros if your into fighting games.

another one is also Zelda Twilight Princess, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Party 8, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, Super Paper Mario..

for me.. im really into Mario games, if  your a singer or dancer you can get Wii Boogie, American Idol and High School Musical. Also, you should get Wii Fit, Its really fun. Any Game that suits you i guess =P

Depends on what kind of gamer you are.

If you're completely new to gaming, then I'd say go for the casual ones.

Some good ones are Mario Kart Wii, Boom Blox, Zack and Wiki.

These games are fun, easy to learn.

If you're into multiplayer yet casual games::

Mario Kart, Super Smash bros (if you're into the fighting genre), Rayman Raving Rabbids 1 or 2, Warioware, Big Brain Academy wii degree, Boom Blox

For some good rpg, I'd say Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess and Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn.

For music/rhythm/dance games there's always rock band, DDR etc. But they all come with an extra equipments, which means more $$

You can try looking on game review sites under specific genres that you like to buy the exact games that suit your tastes. Sometimes even highly acclaimed games can be bad if it's not the kind that you like. I'd say check out the descriptions more than the ratings.
