In player numbers soccer leads the way by a country mile. In spectator numbers it is rugby

Don't know and don't care about the other 4 sports but rugby union is by far the most watched and played sport in Aotearoa.

Recreational fishing and lawn bowls kick all other sports in terms of participation. Sailing has got to be up there, everyone in NZ has a boat, and if they don't . . . their brother does.

Rowing, sailing, cycling, multi-sport, golf, alpine sports and basketball typically enjoy more success than most other sports internationally.

But . . . hard to follow sport when everything revolves around the footy. Who cares if NZ has world champs in anything but the bloody rugby?
