Question Details: Can someone please help me with the above question? I cannot find the information. Just six basic steps is what I need. I do not need very involved and detailed information.

I also need to know what test I would use to carry out to confirm that I have correctly indentified the bacteria. I thought that this would be the Cytochrome Oxidase test, but I am not sure. Can someone else confirm if the Cytochrome Oxidase test is the right test to use to make sure that the bacteria has been identified correctly?

I would really appreciate the help as soon as possible.

  1. 1. Smear stool sample on agar plate (best to use a permissive plate)

    2. Place in incubator set at 37 C for 24 hours

    3. After 24 hours you'll see colonies of bacterias.  You should be able to detect different colonies based on the plates used (i.e. if you use an HE plate, you will see that E.Coli have a bright yellow-orange color).

    4. Use selective mediums

    5. GRAM STAIN! You'll know if it's +/- and if it's cluster/chains.

    6. oxidase tests, catalase tests, etc.
