  1. They indicate the order in which a passenger boards the aircraft, after those that have paid for speedy boarding, those with special assistance needs and the passengers with very young children.

    The earlier you check in the more chance you have of being in group A.  It is possible that group A is completely made up of those who checked in on line, but an early check in on the flight day could get you in that group.

    At the boarding gate you will be called according to which group your boarding pass indicates, and you will be requested to stay seated until you are called.

    You'd be surprised how many people don't know the alphabet and try to abuse the system.
