What are the Benefits of having a Jack Plate?

I have an 18ft CC bay boat with a 120HP outboard. the boat does not have a tunnel hull, would adding a jack plate provide any benefit?

  1. Maybe if not running optimum. It might be helpful if you can find an owners forum for your boat...check their speeds and economy against yours.

    Could be that a prop swap is better than a jack plate. Maybe you aren't trimmed out right....seems like lotsa motor...

    Don't just go out and buy a jacker without some investigation.


  2. Possible .... What it does is raise the motor out of the water in case the motor is running to deep,closer to the top the better it will perform or it can be used to lower the motor if you are already to close to the top most units have a power unit of which you can raise and lower the engine to fit you needs .... It also sets the engine back on the transom so it runs in what is called "clean" water or water not disturbed by  the boat.
