  1. Bicycles are completely legal to own and ride in Indiana.


  2. In all 50 states, bike traffic laws are essentially the same as cars.  Bikes are considered vehicles under the traffic law and must follow all rules of the road. This includes stopping at red lights and stop signs, travelling in the right hand lane with the flow of traffic., yielding to pedestrians, stopping for school buses with their lights flashing. You must also have a white headlight and red taillight if you ride at night.

    State laws vary regarding helmet use. In New York, ages 13 and under are required to wear helmets.
