They are seriously over the cap. (Got two months to trim $2MM from their payroll) and they still need two more top 4 defence men.

  1. There is much speculation that they will move Habby. Which, will free up more than enough and most likely open doors for further actions. They are over I think a little over 1.9 million. Honestly, not too hard to free that up.

Also, I am not sure why they need two more top 4 defencemen. Thats a tall order for any team and a salary cap.. Detroit did not even have 3. With Campbell on board they now have two solid defencemen (Duncan Keith the other). I think if anything they have just created a defensive personnel similar to Detroit last season.... well rounded. A defense needs balance like any other side of the game. Now they have Campbell, who finished 4th among D in points, Keith who finished the season 2nd in +/- rating, the versatile Byfuglien who although moved back and forth from D to O led "labeled" defencemen in goals and GWG. Sopel and Seabrook are quality as well. Huet will also help contribute to a lower team GAA this season. I think the Hawks have just balanced out their D just fine. I see it similar when looking at it in terms of balance to Detroit with Lidstrom and Rafalski. Not the same given the Lidstrom factor but sam principal. Hawks D will be just fine.

HOMES: Great point on Havlat... hit that right on the head and he should be gone too soon.

  2. I agree with daven.  I'm not sure Chicago fans can be demanding 4 elite top 4 defenseman.  h**l, I'm pissed that Detroit resigned Andreas Lilja.  I think having Brian Campbell and future star Duncan Keith at the blueline is all you can ask for at this point.  You need to get rid of Khabibulin because, although he is one of my favorite goaltenders of all time, he's getting paid too much and doing too little.  He is definitely past his prime.  Get rid of him and find a veteran backup that only costs a mil or two per season.  Marty Havlat would be nice to dump but he's injury prone.  I'd say see if he is healthy this season because if he is, you're protecting your already costly investment because when healthy, I think he is by far the best forward on your team.  Even if you can't sign anymore talent, I'd say you're in a lot better shape than most people thought you would be at this point, and a lot better than you were last season.  I can see Chicago creeping into the 8th seed position at the end of the season.  I hope to see Chicago competing with Detroit in the next few years.  It would only make the Wings stronger.

  3. I don't know what they are going to do. IMO, to solve this, they should get rid of Lang and Havlat, since they arn't a huge part of the team but have huge salaries. Also Khabibulin is over paid but he can come in handy at times

  4. WOW.  I was just looking at that, then answered a question about the Lightning and brought up Chicago, and then I go to check out other questions and here is a question about Chicago's bad money situation.  We were thinking about the same thing at the same time.  ~~~Freaky~~~

lol...I think I said "question" like 20 times.

Well, Khabibulin will be gone...so that should get them out of the red.  If I were them I would also dump Havlat.  They will do fine with Sharp, Kane, and Towes.  I think Havlat is overpaid and too injury prone.

  5. Kane and Toews gonna be looking for extensions in a couple years. wheres the money? gone.

  6. They gotta find a way to get rid of the  Khabibulin, over 12 million on Goalies is too much.  The question is will anyone want him at 6Million.  Maybe they can unload Havalat but who wants an injury prone star at 6 million.  They have some wiggle room as bonus money to the young guys can count against next years cap.

  7. not sure...they've probably got some plan

we just got huet and campbell and traded rene borque for a draft pick

but yeah that kind of worries me now and we seriously need to get rid of havlat...it makes me mad he had so many injuries hes not worth it any more

  8. there going to be seriously ****** in a few years.... say by by to kane ...... hey hes welcome in buffalo

  9. their probably going to have to trade of players. Or possibly let a few weaker players go
