  1. Advantages are that juries are more reasonable than judges. Judges tend to be more conservative. There are also more people on a jury, and it's not just one person's opinion.

The disadvantages are when you have done an aggregious act and society may have biases where a judge might be more willing to follow the letter of the law rather than rule based on emotional bias.

  2. adv- at least somewhat normal unobjective people get to decide your fate unlike other places where everything is blatantly for show.

dis- 98% of people aren't very smart so a slick talking lawyer can pretty much convince the jury of anything.

  3. Advantages:  The jury has a right to rule a law inapplicable to a particular circumstance.  The US government was built on checks and balances and that is the ultimate check they don't teach or talk about anymore.  The power to say, "This law is unjust."

Disadvantages:  Sometimes, you just don't feel like do jury duty when you get that notice.

  4. There is no disavantage.  They will threaten you that you won't get the plea-bargin deal if you go to trial.  But if you think you have a strong case, by all means, let the jury decide.

  5. With a jury their are more minds, theoreticlt totaling up to a more equal evaluation of the case, however, jury's as any are open to human error, if the case has been prolonged, some may alow their judgement to be swayed so they can get out.

    Hope it helps.

  6. The advantage of a jury is that people are dumb and swayed by their personal biases.  Judges know the law and can smell BS from a mile away, which is why almost all defendants want a jury trial.

  7. disadvantages: if they don't like you, they already make up their mind that your guilty

advantages: you offer your faith of future to 12 people versus just one (judge)

  8. The disadvantage is that the average person drafted for jury duty is as dumb as a stump.

I'll take trial by a judge.

With juries all it takes is one out of twelve to s***w up the process. With judges, it remains about a fifty fifty chance that the person can understand the situation.

  9. Advantage: 12 people must unanimously agree on your guilt

Disadvantage: The people on the jury may not be able to remove their emotions from the trial, which may affect the outcome.  Judges are more likely to be able to better remove their bias from the case and judge more fairly, as this is their career.

  10. While juries are supposed to decide the issue strictly by the law, the feelings they have about the defendant will enter in to the decision as most jury members are not able to go against their feelings.
