How many teams can one person own. I've seen as in example JGR, they have two cars listed as JGR and one(the 11) as JD Gibbs. There are other examples, but I was just curious as to why. Yes I know the limit is 4 cars on a Team.

  1. that also is a limit on ownership too

  2. You can only have 4 teams starting next year.  Roush will have to drop his 5th team.  I'm not sure of the wording but for example working out of the same shop probably counts as the same team even if its got a different owner listed (say Jeff Gordon as a part owner to Johnsons car).

  3. one owner can own 4 teams thats what the answer is

  4. A single person, listed on the race entry form can own two cars. As a team they are limited to 5 teams currently and drops to 4 teams next year.

For HMS, Jeff Gordon is listed as the owner of the 48,

Several teams have very close association with other teams, to get around this. It helps with testing and development.

HMS leases engines to several other teams, builds chassis and engineering help to HAAS.

Roush builds engines for Yates and other Ford teams.

GEM shares engine development with Petty.

  5. To answer why......To prevent powerhouse teams, they way it was heading, the sport could have been cut to 4-5 owners creating all 43+ entrants to a race. Before this rule came about, Roush was hinting at adding another team to make 6 cars, Hendrick was looking into a 5th team to match Roush because with more teams in the current testing format you would have more tests to share that info, which really handicaps the 1 and 2 car teams. As good as Roush, Hendrick, RCR and JGR are I don't know anyone that wants see them as the only owners in Nascar. This 4 car rule in the end I think will be fair for everyone across the board, especially if they change the testing format to allow more testing on Cup tracks and base those tests per Organization at not per car.
