  2. The Paradigm of Cultural Anthropology

        1. Anthropology is comparative.

              o It is comparative synchronically and diachronically.

              o Ethnography is the short term goal of data. Ethnology is the long term goal.

        2.Anthropology and culture are holistic.

              o A change of one small aspect of a culture will ripple through to the rest of the culture.

        3.Multiple systems and processes for an action.

              o E.g. there are many reasons why different people don’t do the same action of smoking- health, affordability, cosmetic reasons, etc.

        4. Emic & Etic

              o To wholly understand a culture, it must be observed through both an emic and etic perspective.

        5. Case studies must be made using participant observation.

  3. Cultural relativism, for one.
