Horse racing betting is famous world over, though this sports betting is illegal in many countries, but still people find ways of betting on horse races. Can you help me know, what are the South African gambling laws for horse racing betting?

  1. For many years, on-track betting on horse races was the only legal  form of gambling in South Africa. When the changes in gambling legislation came about in 1994 the industry struggled to adapt to the rapid rise in off-track betting and other forms of gambling.

    Horse racing and associated betting now accounts for 16 percent of the total gambling revenue in South Africa. The industry is controlled by two bodies. Phumelela Gaming controls racing in the Free State, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape and Gauteng, whilst Gold Circle has the reins in the Western Cape and Kwazulu-Natal.
