What are the Trade Union views on the Lisbon Treaty, for or against?

  1. I am only aware of Bob Crow and the RMT's view - and that is that he/they are AGAINST the treaty. One of the few times I have actually agreed with Mr Crow.


  2. There isn't a "trade union view" because:

    ...even if all the leaders said the same thing, they couldn't speak for their members as they can, for instance, in wage bargaining; it's a safe bet that the members all want more money, whereas they will have different political views on almost everything.

    ...in fact, the leaders don't all say the same thing, and many of them wisely avoid public discussion of the subject.

    ...international treaties are outside the competence of a trade union. They are there to negotiate pay and conditions for their members, not to run the country - still less to run Europe.

  3. Their view should reflect the view of the members.  I am against it as should anyone be if they don't really know what it means for the country. How can you be for something you don't understand.

  4. I'm for the treaty and I was a union rep once, not many of us about. Christopher Columbus said the world was round and everyone thought he was mad. Just shows, the majority isn't always right.
